How Many Days Until Halloween? 6 Days Left on Oct. 25

Halloween is six days away, on Saturday, October 31, and five of the six are working days.

That shape has one consequence for families. School events fall during the coming week rather than on the holiday itself, so anything a child needs for class has to be ready in the next three days.

What the school week will ask for

Most class parties land on Thursday, October 29 or Friday, October 30. Treats need to be bought and, in most schools, individually wrapped. Costumes need to exist a day earlier than they do for the neighborhood, which is why a costume depending on a delivery on October 30 will not work for the classroom.

Three questions determine the shopping list. Whether costumes are allowed and whether masks or props are excluded. Whether food is permitted and whether it must be sealed and store-bought. Whether the class has a child with a food allergy, since that answer changes what is useful to bring.

Teacher gifts deserve a decision this week rather than a scramble on Friday. The rule teachers repeat most often is that small and consumable is welcome and anything large is awkward. A gift card to a local coffee shop, a box of good chocolate or a set of pens for the classroom all fit, and none of them requires knowing the person well.

If several families are contributing, collect earlier rather than later. Group gifts fail when the money arrives after the purchase, and the parent who fronts the cost ends up chasing it. Twenty dollars from eight families buys something genuinely nice, and the collection deadline is this week.

Treats that clear every policy

Individually wrapped non-food items pass the widest range of school rules and cost about what a fun-size candy bar costs. Pencils, stickers, temporary tattoos, glow sticks and small notebooks do not melt, do not break in a backpack and do not create a sugar rush before lunch.

If a sign-up sheet is circulating, claim a slot today rather than Thursday morning. The unclaimed slots are always paper goods and drinks, and they are also the ones that actually matter to the party running.

One thing is better confirmed than assumed. Some schools collect supplies the morning before the party, and a treat that arrives at noon is a treat that arrives after everyone has eaten.
